Schizosaccharomyces pombe as a model and a tool
S. pombe cells are being used as tools for the functional characterization of plant proteins and in order to learn more about the mechanisms of cellular metal homeostasis in an easily workable system, that can serve as a model for phytochelatin-forming cells. We have generated a number of metal homeostasis factor knock-out lines that have been studied and exploited along these lines.
