Abstract:
Pastures that have been abandoned due to overgrowth with weeds, especially with the tropical bracken (Pteridium arachnoideum and Pt. caudatum) can be restored in a three-step procedure. After manually or chemically controlling the weed, Setaria sphacelata is planted, a highly competitive fast growing grass from tropical Africa, which by an optimized management, i.e. regular fertilization and grazing can keep the bracken at a low and tolerable level.
